Pop-up ads, NTSC vids, Kit-shop coming by Rupe

Just back from 3 weeks in Spain. Looks like the guys have kept Newsreel going ok (thanks everyone).

I have of course got a mountain of email to get through and other things to catch up with but am optimistic that everything will be ship-shape for the start of the season on Saturday. But first a few miscellaneous bits of info...

  • I was in Barcelona when Petit and Overmars signed but was powerless to stop the deals from my vantage point in a bar on La Rambla. Sorry. Still, we had the best of both of them. I saw footage on the telly of Petit's medical - on a walking machine with 3 TV cameras up his nose, at his crotch, etc, poor guy trying to force a smile by thinking about the money... anyway, I hope it works out for the both of them. (lovely place Barcelona, but I wouldn't want to live there).
  • We should have our ArseWeb Kit shop up and running soon. We've got a deal whereby our kick-back is reduced, but you get the shirts (or whatever) sent out postage-free (to anywhere in the world). Should be up within a week.
  • I've been told of a site which sells American (NTSC) format Arsenal videos. Not a huge range, mind. See the Videos page in the Arseweb shop. Thanks to Mike Kavanagh for the info.
  • I'm very very sorry about the Pop-up ads nightmare which you may have suffered a week or two ago. There was an error at the ad server which meant that the ads were not being capped (you should only receive each pop-up 3 times). It was fixed fairly quickly but I understand that in the meantime people were getting a new pop-up every time they went to a new page on the site. Ouch! Sorry. I know that we all hate pop-ups and close them down immediately as a matter of course, but for some reason the advertisers aren't put off by this. So we have to have the bloody things. I hope that no-ones so disgruntled as to feel like stopping using ArseWeb (when the ads are capped, at least!), but if you feel strongly please do get in touch.
