London County Cup final
Yesterday Arsenal clinched the first of the 3 cups they're
gunning for this year. Although 90 minutes failed to produce
a goal, Arsenal perked up in extra time, possibly showing the difference in fitness levels between Premier League and lower
division women's football.
Marianne Spacey scored the 1st and 3rd, with one from Faye White's head sandwiched in between.
See AFCi report, which includes the interesting news that there are proposals for
the women's game to turn pro in the next 3 years. Note also
that Arsenal's substitute goalie came on as a striker for the
last 10 minutes!
The Arsenal Ladies reserve team have already won the National Reserves League Cup, with a 5-1 win over Leeds reserves on
the 12th (see AFCi).
Next up is Doncaster Belles, in the semi-final of the FA Cup next Saturday (Live on Sky, see here). They're already through to the final of the League Cup, also televised, the following Saturday.
