Arsenal Ladies (2) 2 - 3 (2) Doncaster Belles
WFA Cup semi-final
Saturday 25th March 2000
Arsenal Ladies' terrific cup run came to an end today.
Arsenal had much the better of the first half, coming back
from a goal down to lead 2-1. One of Arsenal's goals came
from a dodgy penalty when the the ball bounced up off the
dodgy turf and handball was given, but the lead was well deserved
at that stage. Belles equalised just before half-time, and went
on to have the better of the second half.
But let's take this opportunity to celebrate the amazing run that
Arsenal Ladies have had in knockout tournaments in the last 2 years,
rather than mourn its end.
This was the time that Arsenal had lost in a major cup
competition in 27 matches, and the first time they'd lost in
the FA Cup in 14 ties (since the semi-final 2 years ago).
They won this season's London County Cup last week, and
play Croydon in the League Cup final next Saturday. |
