Arsenal Ladies (current holders) play Croydon Ladies this
Saturday evening for the AXA Women's Premier League Cup.
The match is at Barnet, kick-off 5.35 (live on Sky).
Arsenal are looking to win the cup for the 3rd time in a row, and
make up for the disappointment of going out
of the FA Cup last weekend. Croydon on the other hand are looking at a potential treble. They're in with a good shout of the league, and overcame Leeds 2-1 in their FA Cup semi.
They'll face Doncaster Belles, who incidentally look set to be the first Women's team to get their own stadium (see
SportLive). Belles are 5 points ahead of Croydon in the league,
but have played 3 games more. So, for a change, Arsenal Ladies
are not one of the teams battling it out for the double.
Anyway, as a kind of warm-up for Saturday, members of the Arsenal
and Croydon squads will be at the Millenium
Dome tomorrow (Thursday 30th March) at 1pm, for a chat, a photo-shoot,
and a go at the "world's largest game of table football"
(which begs the question, how big does a table have to be
before it stops being a table?).
Amongst other things, they'll be talking about the future of women's football, including the recently mooted possibility of
the game turning professional.
Arsenal players present will include captain Sian Williams and
England stars Marianne Spacey and Rachel Yankey.
