It looks like this is going to happen in the next 2 years, and European equality laws mean that it probably won't be long before the mens and womens games are at least partially merged.

Although currently there aren't many women players who'd get into the men's squads, it's felt that this will change once the women share the advantages of professionalism. UEFA officials are apparently admitting privately that, despite expected objections from the fossils that run the domestic football associations, it seems certain that there will be women players playing in the "mens" national leagues, at least in the lower divisions, by the start of season 2003-2004.
