Arsenal Ladies are making the early running in the Women's League, a win over Everton at the weekend making it 2 out of 2.
England's Claire Wheatley was the star, flicking the ball on for England colleague Angela Banks to score the opener after 15 minutes. Everton equalised with a 20-yard free-kick, before
Wheatley's spectacular volley sealed the points.
TeamTalk are reporting that Sunday's game against Sunderland
has been moved from Borehamwood to Potters Bar FC, because
of a cup fixture at the former.
TeamTalk are also responsible for the "correction" published here earlier when I said "Contrary to what I said previously, I'm now told that they're not top but third behind Doncaster Belles and Charlton (formerly Croydon)."
I'm sorry, I should have known better. I just thought that even they could hardly get a league table wrong. ArseWeb correspondent Mark Parsons responds as follows:
"Arsenal Ladies are top of the Premiership on goal difference from Doncaster Belles (Arsenal have won 5-0 and 1-2 respectively and Doncaster Belles have won 1-3 and 3-1 respectively)."
"I don't know why TeamTalk have put Charlton (Croydon) in front of Arsenal as Charlton (Croydon) have yet to play a game."
"My understanding of this (and I may be wrong) is that there was an almighty cock-up and Charlton forget to tell the F.A. of their name change from Croydon (unlike Blyth Spartons who did inform the F.A. correctly of their name change to Sunderland). In normal circumstances (say, if this was a mens team) then Charlton (Croydon) would have had a points deduction as "punishment" but because this is ladies footy and the F.A. are desperately trying to promote it then it was deemed that Charlton (Croydons) first two games would be postponed whilst all the paperwork was correctly sorted out!"
"So basically Charlton (Croydon) are on zero points with zero goal difference but they are already above Everton and Liverpool who have minus goal differences already. For the record Charltons missed games were against Everton (home) and Sunderland (away). They should start playing this Sunday but I don't who against!"
Mark also points out that as well as Borehamwood, Arsenal reserves, and Arsenal Ladies playing at Borehamwood's ground, Enfield Town are playing there too now, since losing their own ground at the end of last season. So I guess there might be a few relocated games for our Lads and Ladies this year.
