FA Premier Academy south, Tues 6 Feb 2001
Arsenal 2 Southampton 1
Arsenal scorers: Kanu 2
The original fixture at Borehamwood having been postponed, this game was quickly rearranged to take place at the Arsenal training centre instead. The Gunners fielded a strong side featuring several first teamers returning from injury. Edu, Ljungberg, Grimandi and Kanu all played, along with Vivas and Luzhny and several younger players. Southampton also had a strongish side with the likes of Moss, Soldvedt, Le Tissier and Rosler.
See AFCi for their report. Arsenal apparently deservedly won the game with 2 goals from Kanu, the second 3 minutes from time.
In the FA Youth Cup, Oldham slightly surprisingly beat West Ham in a 4th round replay last night, to set up a 5th round encounter with Arsenal at Boundary Park. The Latics won 4-2 after West Ham had a player sent off for deliberate handball in the area in the 15th minute. The date of the Oldham-Arsenal 5th round tie has yet to be arranged, we will let you know when we do. Meanwhile, check the ArseWeb youth team page for more stats & details, and the ArseWeb reserves page for reserve team stats. |
