Southampton 2 - 2 Arsenal
Reserve team match
The Dell, Monday 19th March 2001
As predicted,
Martin Keown is back. He played for the reserves last night at the Dell.
See reports on AFCi
and the official Saints site. The latter is more interested in the Soton players, naturally, in particular the return from injury of Matthew Le Tissier (whenever I read a Soton reserves report, Matt Le Tissier is returning from injury).
Keown played 60 minutes of the match, against a strong line-up including Stuart Ripley, Le Tissier, Jason Dodd, and Kevin Davies.
Both Arsenal goals were scored by Jo Osei-Kuffour. He hit a great
volley to put Arsenal ahead after 6 minutes, only for Saints to draw level when Davies got away from Keown to head home Le Tissier's cross. They went ahead before half-time when anm Arsenal clearance was charged down to create a chance for
the Aussie striker Caceres. On 66 minutes Osei-Kuffour got his second after Le Tissier was caught in possession.
There is another reserve match next Monday, which should give Keown time to get fully ready for the following week when we
take on Tottenham twice, and Valencia, in an 8 day period.
