FA Premier Academy league U17 playoffs, Sat April 28 2001
Arsenal 3 Watford 3
The under-17s missed a chance to win their playoff group and advance to the quarter-finals. Leading 2-0 at half time, and 3-1 with five minutes to go, they conceded 2 late goals to the Hornets, who go through as group winners. With the other game between QPR and Palace also ending as a draw, a win would have seen Arsenal through.
The U19s meanwhile finished with another win, and the best record of any under-19 team in the country. We believe the under-19 playoffs have a different format, with only the regional league group winners going straight through to the play-off semi-finals. Arsenal thus meet QPR in one semi, with Everton and Nottingham Forest contesting the other.
