Another Arsenal team made it through to a final tonight, as
the youth team progressed to the FA Youth Cup final with a
fantastic away win at Ipswich.
Town had won a thrilling first leg at Highbury by the odd goal
in 7 (see here).
They were 2-1 up at half time in this leg too, but Arsenal
hit them relentlessly in the second half, and could have scored
even more. It ended 4-2, Arsenal through 7-6 on aggregate! Goalscorers were Volz, Ricketts, Aladiere, and err...?
See this Ipswich site for first report.
Arsenal face Blackburn Rovers in the two-legged final. Both legs of their
semi finished 1-1, and Rovers clinched the place winning the penalty shoot-out at Anfield tonight.
See Unofficial Rovers Site for report.
Rovers were last in the final in 1998, losing narrowly to Everton.
Arsenal are of course holders (amd 5-time winners) of the trophy.
Last year it was a 5-1 aggregate win over Coventry.
Derek points out that some of the above details, such as Arsenal goalscorers, are incorrect. The Ipswich site's reporter must have been working from the
match programme as he misidentified Volz as Israel and Santry as Volz. Anyway, Derek's full report from the match, complete with correct names
for everyone, is now here.
