As the youth team prepare for what will surely be
their second FA Youth Cup win in a row (a feat previously
only achieved by Palace in the 70s), Liam Brady's
been talking about the players he thinks will be making the breakthrough next season.
Anyone who saw the first leg of the Youth Cup final
on Friday will be in no doubt about one of those names, as
Jermaine Pennant was man-of-the-match by a mile.
But the other name won't be a surprise either. There was
a right stink kicked up when Arsenal "poached" Jeremie Aliadiere from France a couple of years ago. You'd think they'd be
grateful. Arsene Wenger nurtured Anelka, transformed Henry,
and who would suppose that Wiltord's time at Arsenal won't
improve his striking too? Now Aliadiere is being hailed as the
next great French striker.
We reported a while ago that Brady was predicting 2 youngsters
would move up to regular first team action next year. It
looks like it's Jeremie and Jermaine that he was thinking of.
And with the likes of David Noble and John Halls in the
running too, we can expect a stronger squad next year even without more big name signings. How much would have paid
for Ashley Cole?
See this Evening Standard article
for Brady quotes and background on the 2 players.
