Many thanks to Martin for the following...
Just been to AFC vs Spurs reserves...
...at stevenage borough and if this is indicative of future of both teams then our dominance is going to last for a long time.
Arsenal
Jamie Ashdown
Halls Keown Svard Juan
Chilvers Pennant Ricketts Thomad
Jeffers Osei-Kuffour
subs: oates niedzweiecki brown aliadiere skulason
firstly keown played for an hour, looked sharp and well looked like keown....
jeffers played first half again looked sharp and
scored first goal.....
as for game spurs started brightly and scored first but from that point on it was all arsenal and a football lesson
was given....
basically pennant gets a 10 as he was simply a class apart and gave whoever was marking him a schooling....
thomas
and aliadiere(2nd half) were not far behind as the second half pace and movement from front 4 (kuffour) was outstanding leaving
spurs defenders chasing shadows....
arsenal literally owned the last 45 mins creating chance after chance with ricketts, kuffour
adding 2nd and 3 rd and the AWESOME pennant breaking clear on angle and buryingthe 4th across the keeper.......
spurs were
very average, no one stood out and another 2 or 3 would not have flattered arsenal......
every arsenal player looked assured on ball
and svard was played in the vieira role and looked like him in stature......
finally on pennant, this guy just cannot be lived with at this level, he was quicker hungrier and defenders just do not know which
waty to defend him, he got crosses in all night and everyone(including spurs fans were praising him all night)
keown looked ready
now though was comparatively untested so thats great news and jeffers looked sharp and took goal with grewat
composure......
another star is alidiere, fast , great touch, big inventive...
i was greatly impressed tonight as if this the future we are
shining bright.......
4-1 and if i was a spurs fan i'll be deeply worried as this lot were average at best.
Rupe adds...
Thanks again to Martin. Please keep them coming. We're always
happy to receive reports especially from the reserve and
youth team games.
Regarding his last paragraph, it is worth pointing out that
there are premiership teams who'd be lucky to live with the
mixture of young class and hungry experience in this Arsenal line-up (don't forget their youth teams have done well
this season). So how this result reflects on Tottenham's future could
have been overstated by Martin. But hey, we needed cheering up.
And the return of Keown and Jeffers is particularly good news.
Thanks also to Mark Lankester for telling us about
this page
from a Watford fanzine, which also sings the praises of
Jermaine Pennant. It's well worth a read. Pennant hasn't
quite looked ready on his Arsenal first team appearances
so far, but his form at the lower level seems to have gone
up a gear this year, and we have to be optimistic that
hsi loan experience will have served him as well as
Ashley Cole's did. Maybe next season for Pennant...?
Watford, incidentally, are trying to get Pennant
back for the rest of this one.
