Back in 2000 Mohammed Al Fayed decided to take the large jump and make Fulham Ladies who were then in the Greater London League into a fully professional outfit. Within two years they were in the Ladies Premier League. This was all because of an initiative by the FA to make a Ladies Professional League by the Year 2004 and Fulham wanted to be a part of it.
However news has reached us that this League is still a long way off past 2004 and because of this Al Fayed will be withdrawing his purse at Fulham Ladies from next season and Fulham Ladies will go back from being fully professional to semi professional.
Arsenal Ladies made the slight jump to a semi-pro outfit earlier this season.
With the Ladies European Championships coming to these shores in 2005 it doesn't bode well for a victorious England Ladies team if the Professional League is still a long way off. |
