FA Premier Academy League U17 playoff, Sat 26 April 2003
Arsenal 7 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1
Arsenal scorers: Owusu-Abeyi 6, McDonald
Needing to win by two goals against the team that had won its two previous play-off games, the Arsenal U17s apparently did it in style at the Shenley training ground yesterday. Yet to be confirmed elsewhere, but the Wolves site has the above score. The result seems likely to send Arsenal through to the quarter-final, a one-off game next Saturday, opponents yet to be revealed. Sheffield Weds can prevent Arsenal finishing top of the play-off group table they managed to beat Bristol City by eight goals yesterday...
Update: Results now confirmed, young Dutch striker Owusu-Abeyi scored an extraordinary 6 goals in the game. Sheffield Weds & Bristol City drew 0-0, so Arsenal are through to the quarter final where they play Coventry City at Highfield Road on Saturday. Arsenal won 5-1 in the encounter between the two teams earlier in the season, but Coventry won all their play-off games with an aggregate goal difference of 10. See ArseWeb youth team page for play-off table & further stats.
