FA Premier Reserve League South, Mon 29 November 2004
Charlton Athletic 3 Arsenal 1
Arsenal scorer: Gill 51
After a ten game unbeaten start to the season, the reserves have now lost two in a row. However, with most of the reserve regulars on Carling Cup duty, once again this was a virtual under-18 side which lost to a much more experienced Charlton team featuring veteran internationals such as Mark Fish & Dennis Rommedahl. Adam Birchall making his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt this season, following his loan spell at Wycombe, was the only Arsenal player with significant experience.
And indeed, after giving Charlton a two goal start, it could be said that the youngsters matched their opponents for 90% of the game. Debutant Ben Gill reduced the arrears early in the second half, but the league leaders restored the two goal lead soon afterwards.
