Thierry Henry is to be rested again for the FA Cup match with Boro tomorrow. It's a little surprising, given how much the club wants that historic 3rd successive Cup win, and given the shortage of strikers at the moment, but it does mean that Henry gets a full 2 week break going into a crucial period in both league and champs league.
Insofar as Wenger's taking a risk, it might be less in the absence of Henry than in the presence of Bergkamp. He's been out for 5 games with a calf problem but it said to be likely to come straight back into action. Alongside him? Well, Wiltord and Aliadiere are both said to be weeks away from a return. So it could be Freddie or Toure, and there's just a chance that one of the youngsters will play. On Tuesday's showing, one has to hope that it's Jerome Thomas (although Ryan Smith looked good too).
Boro will still be missing defensive pair Gareth Southgate and Colin Cooper, who were injured out of the League Cup game on Tuesday. Let's hope they're missed a bit more this time than they were then. I believe that Doriva has a 1 game suspension, for the booking he picked up at Highbury on 10th January (his 5th of the season). |
