Arsenal will be without Emmanuel Eboue for tomorrow's FA Cup 4th round visit of Bolton Wanderers.
The right back has an ankle problem picked up during the League Cup
semi-final first leg
comeback draw at Tottenham on Wednesday. He is expected to be ok for the
second leg next week, but won't be available tomorrow.
While Justin Hoyte is a very able deputy, Eboue if fit could have been used
as well as Hoyte, because we're a bit light when it comes to right wingers.
Eboue and Hoyte played well together on Wednesday.
We went into detail on
the options for the right hand side earlier in the week, following the news that
Alexander Hleb is out for a month. The upshot is that with Freddie Ljungberg still
out (but hopefully not for much longer),
along with Robin van Persie (for a lot longer), the only right winger we've got left is
Theo Walcott. And, to be frank, Theo hasn't quite been cutting the mustard as a starter
in that position. Jeremie Aliadiere has been passed fit though, so perhaps that's an
option. Cesc Fabregas could be moved wide right, he's done it before, but with
Gilberto suspended that'd mean partnering Mathieu Flamini with a less experienced
central midfielder like Abou Diaby or Denilson. Turns out that might be on the cards anyway
because Le Boss says
he's not sure whether or not to give Cesc a rest. "I am tempted to count one game out for him, either on Sunday or Wednesday."
Make it Sunday, Arsene. We'll have Gilberto back then.
We'll see. At least we have Tomas Rosicky available on the left of midfield and
Emmanuel Adebayor and Thierry Henry up front (Wenger says he thinks Thierry will play) but with
Julio Baptista also making a decent case in recent weeks. In defence William Gallas and
Johan Djourou are both out, the latter expected back for Wednesday but Gallas not
expected back till god-knows-when.
So it should be Kolo Toure and Philippe Senderos at the back with Gael Clichy and
Hoyte.
In goal, I was thinking that the fact that
Manuel Almunia's got 2 Wednesdays in a row against Tottenham might see Jens Lehmann given this one.
But Wenger has said
that no, Jens is out "just to rest him".
Bolton will be without the diving, spitting, but dangerous striker El Hadji Diouf, who serves the
first of a 2 match ban following a sending off against Middlesbrough last weekend. He's likely
to be replaced by Stelios, who scored the winner when we
lost to Bolton at the same stage last year, but they also have striking option in
Kevin Davies and Nicolas Anelka, who did for us at
their place in the league a couple of months ago. Henrik Pedersen is back from an achilles injury but
Quinton Fortune and Joey O'Brien are out. Nolan's another that's always worthy watching out for, and
Jaaskelainen's usually hard to beat. |
