Arsenal 0 - 0 Leicester City
Highbury, Sunday 9th January 2000
FA Cup 4th round
One of the most entertaining nil-nil draws I've seen,
but frustrating too. Leicester played like a team who
know they deserve the underdog tag (after our win at Filbert Street who can blame them?) and came to defend. To be fair,
they did it superbly. And without Bergkamp and Overmars
Arsenal just didn't have the guile to break through. Kanu
came on as a sub in the second half and things picked up
a bit,
but then they got a man sent off and and it got harder
as they defended even deeper.
When the ref booked new Foxes signing Darren Eadie late in the game it took
the Arsenal players and the linesman to remind him that Eadie
had been booked already. Strange that, because by that stage he'd
booked just about everyone so it was odds on that the next yellow
card would be followed by a red. But it wasn't a dirty game,
just tough and full of commitment.
The tie goes to a replay at Filbert Street on Wednesday 19th,
and the 5th round draw has lined up a probable away tie at Stamford Bridge for the winners (although the way the cups
are going this season, it'd take a brave man to bet against Forest upsetting Chelsea in their 4th round game).
Suker's booking means he's passed the 5 card threshold and will miss the Man Utd game in a fortnight. Looks like we could be seriously
under-strength up front for that one.
