Carlisle United (0) 0 - 1 (1) Arsenal
Brunton Pk, Saturday 6th January 2001
FA Cup 3rd round
Arsenal squeezed through thanks to a great finish by
Sylvain Wiltord halfway through the first half. Vieira
powered through the midfield and fed a precise pass
through to his countryman, who turned and fired home from
15 yards.
Although Arsenal were always on top, they never managed to
put the tie beyond doubt. Carlisle had a few chances but most
of them were wasted, and Manninger had little to do.
United battled hard, too hard at times. One awful foul on Vieira went unpunished, and Vivas got himself booked for complaining about it.
Ljungberg had a good one-on-one chance in the second half,
thanks to a great Pires pass. But he hit the shot straight at the keeper, who did well to also save Wiltord's follow-up from the rebound.
