Carlisle midfielder Richard Prokas may have issued an official apology for his two-footed tackle on Patrick Vieira - but he could still have to face the FA, if only informally.
"Richard Prokas would like to publicly state that he regrets the incident last Saturday and certainly did not intend to injure Patrick Vieira," said an official statement from Carlisle.
"He regards Vieira as the best midfield player in the Premiership and particularly admires his competitive qualities in these circumstances.
"However, Richard accepts that his challenge for the ball was mistimed and would like to publicly apologise to Patrick. At the same time he will be seeking to privately speak with Patrick to offer him his personal apologies and best wishes for the future."
But Prokas will still have to have a little chat with FA Compliance Officer (scary job title!) Mr (Graham) Bean (less than scary name). "He will make it clear that we do not expect any repeat of the type of challenge made on Patrick Vieira," according to FA spokesman Adrian Bevington.
"There are no disciplinary channels that are available to us. However, we want to make it perfectly clear that there is no place for this type of thing in football."
Arseweb's thoughts on the (let's be polite) inconsistency of the 'disciplinary channels' were recorded yesterday. |
