Arsenal (1) 2 - 1 (1) Tottenham
Old Trafford, Sunday 8th April 2001
FA Cup semi-final
Tottenham took the lead against the run of play,
with their first (and only dangerous) attack of
the game. Seaman had made a great block from
a Ferdinand shot, but they got the ball back
quickly and Iversen tried a shot from the corner
of the box which was heading towards the corner flag
when it hit defender Gary Doherty on the head and
deflected past Seaman.
The key moment of the game came when Arsenal threatened
to break decisively down the right. Wiltord played the
ball down the line for Parlour, and Campbell's only
way of stopping him was to run across Ray's path.
The collision brought about a free-kick for Arsenal and
a booking for Campbell, who was off the pitch having
treatment as Pires took the free-kick. Vieira rose
in the box to glance it inside the far post.
Shortly after, afetr hobbling round a bit, Campbell went off.
Apparently he twisted his other ankle. Although
Sol hadn't had his best game ever, his presence obviously
made a difference to them, and from then on it was only
Arsenal's poor finishing and some excellent keeping
from Sullivan that kept the score anything but embarassing for Tottenham.
In the end it was once again the French connection which
got us the winner, with 15 minutes to go. And once again it was
an awesome run from Vieira which started it. He picked it
up in the centre-circle and ran through a few challenges
before feeding Wiltord wide on his left. Sylvain took it to the
goal-line and, after everyone had been trying near-post shots
to no effect, finally hit the perfect pass across the 6-yard box,
cutting out Sullivan and giving Pires a tap-in.
Just back from the game, and no time for a full
report now. But there'll be plenty more here tomorrow.

Liverpool won by the same scoreline at Villa Park. Wycombe
held on gallantly for most of the match. But goals in quick succesion from
Heskey and Fowler in the last 10 minutes sealed it, Wycombe's consolation goal at the death making injury time a little more
interesting.
So, it's Arsenal vs Liverpool in the final in Cardiff on
May 12th. And we always beat them in FA Cup finals, whatever
the year ends in.
