TH14 looks happy at Highbury by JFD

Here' s what he said, roughly translated and summarized from the latest France Football issue, dated today with Boom Boom' s disallowed goal vs Man. Utd on (part of) the front page :

I lived a great moment when I entered the Highbury pitch for the first time against Leicester, I just waited for this moment. English fans are renowned for being amazing and noisy, they are better than that : I was awarded an ovation when I came on and immediatly understood the role they are playing. I 'm not sure we could have won without their support throughout the match. We need their support, even if we' re professionals and doing our job, they transcend ourselves.

English fans respect the players, they know we can be at fault sometimes but forgive us. When they sing your name after you missed an occasion, you only want to score for them, to give them pleasure. We at Juve were sometimes booed during the training sessions. Even when I failed to cross the ball after a 50 yrd run, they applaud, which is quite a difference with what I' ve lived in Italy. I even wonder if they don' t back their club more when things are going wrong. I' ve never regretted to come here in England, honest! I even met once one guy in London who under his suit was wearing an Arsenal shirt. I can' t imagine Italian fans can be as mad as that.

I received silly bookings during my first games in England, after I tried to take it out on the defender who first fouled me. I know now. Better forget the aggression and concentrate on the game. The game here is not nasty but you need however to adapt to their style of play. The way they are tackling would lead a ref on the continent to show the culprit a red card, not here, he merely shows a yellow and basta. For instance Frank Sinclair, a guy I know because we met sometimes in London elbowed me to prevent me to get into the Leicester box. Ref did not whostle, full stop! You' re dead if you don' t accept physical challenges.

I enjoy playing football in England, much more than I did in Italy. Football here suits me better, no calculation, it' s still a game, like one is used to play with friends. It' s as simple as that.
