You are probably aware Les Bleus began their pre-World Cup 2002 season by winning Romania 2-1 in Paris, both goals coming from defensive midfielders PV4 and EP17. A (poor) summary of the (poor) game played in (poor) wet conditions is available here (Fine goal from Manu however)
Paddy was the Paddy we love to see before he was subbed at half-time and had a rather quiet game, scoring a header at the far post after 55 seconds or so from some Chelsea player' s free-kick. Bob Pires was most impressive during the second half while SW11 came on for Dugarry after 60 minutes. TH12 who said before the game he is now a real striker and now longer a winger lacked a partner upfront. Daveed Trezeguet replaced him after 70 mins and we Froggies are still waiting to see both players together.
Rupe told you Bob Pires started his media career yesterday on the radio Europe 1. It much more concerns the man Pires than the footballer Pires, not to mention the Gunner Pires.
To put it in a nutshell when footie at THOF is concerned, when asked if there was a French clan at Arsenal he replied that the French Gooners get on well together, on and off the pitch and that they could even spend their hols together. His mate Sylvain was interviewed on the phone and you can hear the whole of it (in french obviously) here |
