Robert Pires is to undergo surgery on his cruciate ligament
and will be unable to resume training for four months, he told
today's Equipe.
Following that, he's been told, it's likely to be another
2 months before he plays again.
There's no great surprise here. It's a shame that false hopes were raised soon after his injury in the FA Cup quartr-final replay win over Newcastle, which delayed the decision to go under the knife.
But it's understandable that Robert and the French international camp wanted to hang onto whatever slim hope they could, that he
would be available for the World Cup.
