Ray Parlour is probably going to miss Euro2000. He came off the
bench against Brasil on Saturday towards the end, and came a
cropper thanks to a bad challenge which the ref didn't see.
Ray's due to have scans to assess the extent of the damage but
it's expected to be torn knee ligaments and that would almost
certainly rule him out of Keegan's 22.
Kev said "if the message back is that it's going to be a week to 10 days for him to recover, I have to make the decision as to whether that is a risk I can take." We suspect that 10 days is wishful thinking, and since Fowler looks to have booked a place
Keegan is unlikely to take another borderline case whose fitness
is suspect.
Keegan has also spoken about Dave Seaman, saying that he is
very much the England number 1 at the moment, and there's
no reason he shouldn't be able to fulfil his stated ambition of retaining that place as far as the 2002 World Cup. "David is still a master of his trade. He's very fit, very focussed and he's got the desire. Add the experience and you can not only understand why he wants to carry on to 2002, but you can see him doing it as well. I don't want to rule anyone out of the World Cup."
Seaman was blamed in some quarters for Brasil's equaliser in
the 1-1 draw. Keown played alright. Silvinho looked far
from out of place on Brasil's left flank (and praise doesn;t
come much higher than that).
Martin Keown is likely to be the only Arsenal representative in the line-up for the match against the Ukraine tomorrow, Seaman and Adams are both expected to be rested.
