There's Gunners past, present and future in the French squad named by Roger Lemerre for a charity match in Marseille next Wednesday, where a French side will play a FIFA World Stars selection.
Current Gunners in the side are Vieira, Pires and Henry. And conceivably by the time the game kicks off, we might have added Wiltord to that list. The appearance of the name 'Emmanuel Petit' still catches the eye, although those days are now gone. Anelka's in there too, but we couldn't care less on that front. And it goes without saying that we've been linked with virtually everyone else in the squad, at some point, by some spurious rumour monger...
Ironic corner... in a recent survey to find France's most popular Frenchman, regular winner Abbé Pierre - a priest who gave up a wealthy lifestyle to help the poor, and is the nation's 'face of charity' - was deposed by Zinedine Zidane. |
