The will-he-won't-he battle seems to be raging on... but in all the fuss, nobody seems to have noticed that Kanu's name doesn't feature in the Nigerian squad for the Olympics. (Well, it does in a way - as Nwankwo's brother Christopher is in it - but you know what we mean.)

The rosters consist of 18 confirmed squad players (including Celestine Babayaro incidentally) with squad numbers 1-18, plus 4 'alternate' players who, according to the FIFA web site, 'can only be activated in accordance with the regulations issued by FIFA prior to the Olympic Football Tournament'.

Ominously, Nigeria have only named 3 alternates (numbered 19, 20 and 22) - so there is notionally room for one more player. But someone is going to have to be kicked out of the 'full squad' to accommodate Kanu, and that won't exactly go down well.

This all has to be good news for the Gunners, hasn't it?
