- Venezuela 0 - 6 Brasil
- Silvinho played the full game at left back as Roberto Carlos was injured. The Arsenal player won considerable praise, and should have done enough to establish himself as second-in-line
at least (which is no mean feat in Brasil - unlike England where anyone in the country could be second choice left back). It'll be interesting to see if Roberto Carlos comes back. There's been some slagging in the press with Romario saying that the squad were happy the Real Madrid player wasn't with them cos none of them like him (see here).
Romario will be feeling understandably cocky. Having been ignored by recently sacked coach Wanderley Luxembourg, he's now scored 7 in the last 2 games (4 in this one).
It was Silvinho's great run and cross that created the second for Juninho Paulista. After that it was the Romario show.
See official Brasil site for report or netgol for (AVI) video clips of the goals.
Brasil's next match should be tougher: Colombia on November
15th.
- Armenia 2 - Ukraine 3
- Oleg Luzhny played the full 90 at right back, and let little past him. The Moose's experience at Arsenal this year won't have done any harm as the Ukraine came back from 2 goals down.
- Sweden 1 - 1 Turkey
- Freddie Ljungberg played the full 90 minutes. Turkey equalised from the penalty spot right at the death.
- Argentina 2 - 1 Uruguay
- Nelson Vivas played the full 90 minutes at right back.
- Latvia 0 - 4 Belgium
- Igors Stepanovs' chances of making the finals are the lowest of any of our players. But presumably he got lots of valuable defensive experience, playing the full 90 minutes fo this heavy loss.
- Cyprus 0 - 4 Netherlands
- No more, and perhaps less, than you'd expect. In fact Holland were worried at 0-0 with 20 minutes to go. Then Seedorf scored 2, former gunner Marc Overmars got one, and Kluivert the 4th right at the end. Dennis didn't play, of course, and won't ever again!
