Ashley Cole is, quite rightly!, one of 3 Gooners to be called into Sven Goran Eriksson's first England squad, to face Spain at Villa Park on Wednesday.
David Seaman keeps his place, again deservedly - although there have been reasonable questions asked about his age. And Ray Parlour maintains his position among the midfielders. (Tony Adams has, of course, quit the international game, and Martin Keown is unfit.)
Elsewhere - the big surprise is Charlton's Chris Powell at the age of 31... although Eriksson's comment 'He is a natural
left-sided defender so why not see him?' is not perhaps a ringing endorsement. West Ham's Cole and Carrick step up to the full squad, and are joined by Sunderland's Gavin McCann and Everton's Michael Ball.
- Matthew Upson is in the Under-21 side to play at St Andrews on Tuesday night.
