Jermaine Pennant came off the bench tonight to turn
England U21's friendly against Mexico at Filbert Street.
Although England had the best of the first half, they came
in goalless. Howard Wilkinson made 6 changes at half time,
including the introduction of the young Arsenal star,
togteher with his teammate Matthew Upson.
With 2 minutes of the restart a Pennant cross created the
first goal for Malcom Christie. His pace and skill continued
to cause nightmares for the Mexican defence, and earned him
a man of the match award. Presenting it, Wilkinson described
Pennant's performance as "as good a debut as I've seen".
Upson got in the action too, forcing a couple of good saves.
Former Arsenal player Jay Bothroyd got the third and final
unasnwered England goal with a
spectacular bicycle kick.
