Will the real French national team please stand up? First they romped all over South Korea, then they rolled over against Australia... now they're back in their romper suits, as it were.
Knowing they needed a result against Mexico, Les Bleus won their final group game in the Confederations Cup, by a score of 4-0.
Arsenal's (but for how long?) Sylvain Wiltord opened the scoring on 8 minutes, but that was the only goal of a disappointing first half. In the second, a goal from Robert Pires - playing, intriguingly, more of a central midfield role - was sandwiched by two from Eric Carriere of Nantes, one set up by a delightful ball from Patrick Vieira.
The French edition of Football 365 isn't the only media outlet to note the increasing influence of the Arsenal contingent on the French national team... although it should be noted that it's a French team missing people like Thuram, Barthez and Zidane. |
