Just for completeness, we suppose we should point out that France went on to beat Japan (as everyone in the world must have expected) in the final of the Confederations Cup - adding yet another lump of metal to the ole cabinet.
The only goal of the final was scored by our own Patrick Vieira on the half hour mark, a long-range header on the end of a Leboeuf cross.
In the end-of-tournament awards, it was Arsenal's Robert Pires who was named man of the tournament - with Vieira coming second in the voting. Depending on how things go in the transfer market, it may have been a Gooner hat-trick, with Hidetoshi Nakata in third place. Nakata missed the final, as he'd gone back to help Roma as Serie A drags on.
