Francis Jeffers and Stuart Taylor are in the England U21 squad for the UEFA U21 championship qualifier against Greece on Friday (5 Oct). A win for England will ensure qualification for the play-offs (9 group winners + 7 best runners-up), the eight winners of those progressing to the finals next May.
As reported earlier, Jermaine Pennant played and scored for the England U19s in the friendly against Iceland last night. Two other Arsenal players also featured in the game. Justin Hoyte (still only 16) came on as sub for England, and summer signing Olaf-Ingur Skulason played the whole game for Iceland. Ryan Garry is also listed as being in the squad, which has another friendly against Russia on Thursday, though he has only just recovered from injury. The friendlies are preparation for the qualifiers for the UEFA championships which start next month.
Rupe adds... Jeffers has since been forced to withdraw from the U21
squad, due to the ankle injury picked up playing Derby on Saturday. |
