Justin Hoyte and Jerome Thomas have been named in the England U19 squad for the European championship preliminary qualifiers later this month. England are in a mini tournament with Hungary and Georgia which acts as a preliminary qualifying round for next May's European championships. They play Georgia at York City FC next Weds 7 Nov, and then Hungary at Barnsley the following Sunday, 11 November. If they win the group England progress to a 2 leg intermediate qualifying round in March/April next year, progress from which would qualify them for the finals in Norway.
Hoyte is not yet 17 but has already won 2 under-19 caps. He usually plays at centre back for Arsenal, but at right back for England. Thomas was called up for the squad earlier this season, but missed out on playing due to injury.
John Halls, David Noble and Rohan Ricketts have also been named in the England U20 squad for the friendly against Portugal at St Mary's Stadium on 21 November. |
