Latest from Mali: Cameroon win by Rupe

Lauren's Cameroon got off to a winning start, 1-0 over Congo thanks to Patrick Mboma. It was a fantastic strike from outside the box, an early contender for goal-of-the-tournament. Cameroon have a new shirt with no sleeves at all (like a basketball vest).

I wasn't sure if the Arsenal man played, he's not mentioned in this commentary on the handy African football pages from the BBC (also including this team guide. But several of you have written to let us know that Lauren played the full 90 minutes, in a central midfield role rather than at right back. Apparently he was highly influential especially in the first half.

Note that in reports and team lists from Mali, Lauren may be listed as "Etame" or "Mayer". His full name is Laureno Bisan-Etame Mayer.

Nigeria get started tomorrow against Algeria. The match is being shown live on Eurosport from 5pm.

Eurosport will be showing a few games live, and the BBC have got a few late night highlights shows. Think that's not much? Well, Kanu fans in Nigeria face not being able to see the tournament at all. Yesterday TV stations were banned from covering it in the country.

See FAQ for other Nigeria/Cameroon links.
