Sven Goran Erikkson has named his 23 man England squad for the
World Cup, and the defensive side of things is well stocked with
Gunners.
David Seaman, Sol Campbell, and Ashley Cole were all very much expected, and
likely to start the first game, but
Martin Keown wasn't a definite. It'll be interesting to see if
the boss plays them all. Sol and Martin will be competing with
Gareth Southgate, Rio Ferdinand, and Wes Brown for the centre back
positions, although it's possible that Brown is being thought of
more as a potential right back.
Ray Parlour may feel disappointed, as many pundits have been
highlighting his recent superb form. But it seems likely that
Parlour's hopes had been raised a great deal. Perhaps if Nicky Butt's injury had kept him out....
It's worth noting that the squad is meant to be flying out to
Dubai on Monday. Surely the Arsenal boys will be allowed to stay back for the Adams testimonial on Monday?
In the U21 squad, Arsenal are represented by Jermaine Pennant and
Stuart Taylor.
The full squad lists can be found on the FA website.
