It looks like the Arsenal contingent are safe for tomorrow's
game against Argentina.
Seaman Cole and Campbell all look set to start again.
Seaman and Cole did little to make their replacements
look better. H will be disappointed to have let the
goal through but he was unsighted by Rio Ferdinand.
Campbell didn't have the best of games defensively,
and perhaps might have been for the chop if he hadn't
scored the goal. Another factor could be the fact that he played
against them last time (and scored that disallowed "winner") -
the squad who were taunted by the oppositino players following
that defeat are going to be particularly "up for" this one.
Personally I'd have thought the experience of
Southgate or (preferably) Keown in defence would have been
worth the slight loss of pace. But the rumours form the camp
are that Darius Vassell is to be the only casualty (with
Nicky Butt coming in to fill the vital role of "the one the
Argentinians try to get sent off"). Big shame for Vassell
who was probably the brightest hope against Sweden. It pains
me to say it but as an Englishman I hope Sheringham gets on
against Argentina.
Now, what's really interested me is Dave Seaman's revelation
that England are practicing penalties for a change. What puzzles
me is whether this is a good use of the time at a stage when
getting through to the knock-out strages is still very muchin the balance. Perhaps it's an exercise in confidence-building! |
