Sol Campbell returned to international duty in England's 2-0 win over Turkey last night, gaining plaudits for his performance in restoring solidity to the English defence. Patrick Vieira also returned, playing the full 90 minutes in France's laboured 2-1 victory over Israel in Parlermo. Wearing a knee bandage, he looked to be playing at less than full throttle. Thierry Henry and Sylvain Wiltord also started the game. Henry played the full match and set up France's equaliser with the cross for Trezequet's headed goal. Wiltord was substituted midway through the 2nd half.
Freddie Ljungberg was also in action, playing the whole game in Sweden's 2-1 win against Hungary in Budapest. Kolo Toure played in the Ivory Coast's 1-0 win in Burundi on Sunday, in an African Nations Cup qualifier. See this ArseWeb page for a summary of Arsenal's current international caps.
In Tuesday's UEFA U21 qualifiers, Francis Jeffers was pushed back down to the depleted England U21 team, and scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Turkey, in the process equalling Alan Shearer's scoring record for the under-21s - 13 goals in 13 games for Jeffers (see record-breakers page for more Arsenal records). Sebastian Svard played in Denmark's 3-0 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Graham Barrett equalled the Republic of Ireland record of 20 U21 caps in the 1-0 defeat in Romania.
