Edu makes his debut for Brazil tonight in a friendly against Hungary. Arsenal teammate Gilberto has been rested. Edu shouldn't be returning to Highbury as knackered as Gilberto usually has been after international trips, because the game is in Budapest.
It's a fitting reward, finally, for Edu's fantastic season. At Arsenal he's always looked the better of the 2 Brazilians, and he's been improving steadily and significantly since he joined us.
Other Arsenal players featuring in tonight's friendlies are...
Freddie Ljungberg, who features for Sweden for ther first time since September. They're playing Portugal, in Portugal, and the match is live on Sky at 9.15.
Kolo Toure, in the Ivory Coast squad to face Guinea in France.
Phillipe Senderos, who is in the Swiss squad for a match in Belarus.
But Jens Lehmann has had to withdraw from the Germany game. He was due to share the goalkeeping duties for Germany with his rival Kahn, in their trip to Romania. Coach Rudi Voeller had been reported as saying that the 2 keepers have made up, and that they'd get 45 minutes each this time. But Lehmann has pulled out with back pain.
And Spain coach Inaki Saez has said that Jose Antonio Reyes still has a chaance of going to Euro 2004, despite being left out of the squad to face Italy tonight. Reyes has been quoted as saying that he "stopped existing" in his home country when he moved to Arsenal, but Seaz says that he is undecided between Reyes and Albert Luque of Deportivo for his final striker spot. Luque was also left out of tonight's squad.
