Toure + Eboue progress, Adebayor heading out by Rupe

this is story 360 of 368 in this topic to date
At least one of Arsenal's African players won't be progressing to the latter stages of the Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Emmanuel Adebayor's Togo side lost their second match, against Cameroon, by the same 2-0 scoreline as they'd lost their first match against DR Congo.

This leaves them bottom of the group after 2 games, and unable to qualify. The final match against Angola is on Sunday. Angola have 1 point and an outside chance of qualifying.

Adebayor played against Cameroon from the start, and by all accounts he looked pretty useful. It'll be interesting to see if he starts against Angola or if he develops another ahem "stomach problem".

Either way, he could be joining up with his new Arsenal team-mates next week.

The Ivory Coast, however have won both their games, Morocco by 1-0 and Libya by 2-1 (Kolo's brother Yaya scoring the last goal, the others coming from Chelsea's Didier Dogbra).

So, unfortuanely for the Arsenal defence, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue will definitely be playing in the knockout stage, and just need a draw against hosts Egypt on Saturday to go through as group winners. Egypt also only need a point, and could well go out if they lose, so one suspects that this won't be the most thrilling game to watch.

If the Ivorians win their group they'll play their quarter-final on 3rd Feb, otherwise it'll be the 4th. They'll be playing one of the two sides, mentioned above, that have already beaten Togo in the group stage.

See BBC site or official Cup of Nations site for more.
