Arsenal's England players escape blame by Rupe

A grey and frustrating day at Wembley yesterday, but I haven't
heard much criticism of the Arsenal players involved.
Seaman was solid at the back, and Keown was alright,
though not at his best. He went off with a leg injury in the
first half and the performance of his replacemtn Rio Ferdinand
only served to make Martin's performance look better.
Ray Parlour came on for Beckham (hamstring) for the last
10 minutes and was excellent.
On the other side, Freddie Ljungberg again made us wish
he'd recreate his Sweden form playing for Arsenal. He had a good
effort at a half chance in the box in the first half, but it
bounced a bit high for him, and in the second he nearly beat
Seaman with an audacious surprise shot from a long-range free-kick
which was curving down into the top corner before H managed to
to get across and tip it onto the bar. The best moment of the
match, featuring Arsenal quality on both sides.
Basically Sweden were a lot more organised and rather more skilful
too. England were particularly let down by the performances
of Cole, Scholes (sent off, idiot) & Beckham. Keegan could
be criticised for throwing in too many inexperienced players,
but at least he didn't grant the crowd's demands for Sheringham,
who despite a couple of crucial trophy-winning performances,
has not become a world-class player overnight.
Sunderland's Michael Gray is obviously one to watch though,
after an impressive second half debut.
No news yet on the extent of Keown's injury.
