Last night's Euro2000 qualifier between Croatia and Yugoslavia,
a game which our Davor Suker described as the most
important in his life, finished scoreless. Yugoslavia took over
in the second half, while Croatia had the better of the first.
Suker hit the post in the 23rd minute. See Nando news.
The result leaves Yugoslavia in the better position, 2 points
clear of Croatia with a game in hand, and one point clear of
Ireland.
In the friendlies...
- France struggled to beat Northern Ireland 1-0. Patrick Vieira was the only Arsenal player involved, playing the first 85 minutes during which he helped set up the goal and
had a couple of penalty shouts turned down (Reuters, Cfoot [in French])
- Alex Manninger kept a clean sheet in his first match for
Austria in their scoreless draw in Sweden (Reuters)
- and Bulgaria got a 1-1 draw in the Ukraine thanks to a last minute
equaliser which apparently deflected off a Ukraine defender
(but it wasn't Oleg Luzhny because although he travelled
with the squad, he didn't play).
(Reuters)
- Neither Marc Overmars nor Dennis Bergkamp was fit
for Holland's goal-less draw in Denmark.
Ukraine and France play in a Euro2000 qualifier on Sept 4th.
