It looks like we may have our first casualty of the
International fortnight.
Freddie Ljungberg was carried off injured during
today's Euro2000 qualifier. He was hacked down from behind
in the 62nd minute by Bulgaria's Milen Petkov, who thus earned his second yellow card.
2 minutes later Sheffield Wednesdays Nicklas Alexandersson, who came on in Ljungberg's place, scored the only goal of the game.
We'll let you know when we have more details of the injury, variously reported to be to Ljungberg's left foot or ankle. Even if it's
not too bad, Sweden only need to beat Luxembourg on Wednesday to
guarantee their qualification to next year's finals, so hopefully he'll be rested
anyway.
