Mixed feelings for one particular Arseweb author, but Croatian international Davor Suker scored a last-minute goal to beat the Republic of Ireland on Saturday night.
Suker saw a bullet-header goal disallowed earlier in the game, but got his name on the scoresheet with a fine example of Route One football. A long ball, best described as 'speculative', landed in the D of the penalty area - Suker controlled it superbly with one touch, and with the second he banged it home.
France and Ukraine finished nil-nil, probably not a bad result considering that Arsenal 'defenders' were involved - Paddy Vieira for the French, Oleg Luzhnyi for the Ukrainians. You may take some consolation in knowing that Anelka was kept quiet, and substituted early in the second half. |
