Kanu's sad TV vigil by Rupe

this is story 78 of 368 in this topic to date
Kanu will be watching tonight's game at Old Trafford nervously from Lagos. He's spoken about the heartbreak of knowing that he has to let the club down "I would love to go and play for Arsenal against Manchester United but Nigeria is my fatherland and I want to play for them also".

He could only watch and pray as Arsenal went out of the FA Cup on penalties to Leicester. "It was so difficult to take in what happened", he says. If we lose tonight he'll have watched us effectively go out of both domestic competitions.

We can only hope that he feels no guilt over it all, and that it doesn't affect his form for Nigeria noqw, or for us when he gets back (at least he'll return in time for the next UEFA Cup games in March).

Nigeria won their first group match 4-1 over Tunisia. Kanu didn't score but his presence helped create the space for Jay Jay Okocho and Victor Ikpeba to bag 2 each. Ikpeba's first was created by a typically clever piece of Kanu magic. See Soccernet for Kanu quotes and brief report, and CyberEagles for full Nigeria/Nations Cup coverage.

See this SportList page for Nations Cup matches on telly (EuroSport), and all other TV football. For other countries see the links on our non-UK TV FAQ. Next Nigeria game is against Congo, 3pm this Friday.
