Following earlier gossip
(guesswork) from TeamTalk that Tony Adams might follow
Alan Shearer into International retirement after Euro2000,
it's nice to hear that Tone's ambition hasn't left him.
Speaking to PA Sport he's said that if Keegan wants him to take over as captain he'll do it, but that it's ok if Keegan chooses
someone else too. Basically, he's available for whatever.
Although we might like the idea of Tone not risking injury for his
country any more, surely whatever drives him for club and country
aren't that dissimilar. Would we recognise a Tony Adams that didn't fancy a shot at lifting the World Cup?
He also talks about how much he learned from Terry Butcher, an old geezer at the back
when Adams was starting his England career, and how he hopes he
can do the same for the likes of Sol Campbell and Rio Ferdinand.
See Sporting Life for
full interview.
