Nigeria coach on mission to Europe by Rupe

this is story 98 of 368 in this topic to date
Nigeria coach Jo Bonfrere is on a mission to discuss the club-vs-country situation with top European clubs.

Bonfrere did not return to Nigeria with the squad after their World Cup qualifier in Eritrea on Sunday, but instead headed north to meet the likes of Arsene Wenger, Gianluca Vialli, and PSG's Philippe Bergaroo.

Arsenal will presumably be asked about releasing Kanu in good time for important matches. When Nigeria were playing Eritrea on 9th April, Kanu was allowed to stay in London for the 1st leg of our UEFA Cup semi against Lens on 6th, rather than leave in time for training with his Nigerian teammates. Nigeria only managed a goalless draw in that match, which makes the return leg on 22nd crucial. So it seems unlikely that Nigeria will allow Kanu to play in the UEFA Cup 2nd leg on 20th.

But Arsenal are not the greatest of Bonfrere's worries. PSG players Augustine Okocha and Godwin Okpara both refused to travel to Africa for the Eritrea match. PSG were forced to leave them both out of the first division match against Arsenal sister-club St Etienne on 8th. Bergaroo has said that he doesn't know why the players were refusing to play for Nigeria. He'll be doing his damndest to keep the NFA sweet: PSG have the league cup final to play, on the same day as the second Eritrea match!
