Ex-Arsenal winger Glenn Helder, one of George Graham's
parting gifts, has admitted attempting suicide 6 months ago.
Suffering from depression, he took an overdose, but thankfully he was found in time.
Helder is remembered for dazzling skills in his first games,
infrequently repeated thereafter, and especially (by me at least)
for the excellent cross which set Bergkamp up for his first Arsenal goal.
Helder blamed his depression at least partly on a gambling problem.
But he's had a rough time in other ways this year, with an aborted move to China followed by relegation in Holland
and getting slagged off by his coach. We hope things work out
for him.
