Thanks to the Evening Standard for this wonderful story about Steve Bould's first appearance at Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

On the day he arrived for his medical examination at Sunderland he drove into the club car park and asked a steward for directions.

"The steward told me to drive to the offices that were behind me," recalled Bould. "I was already late. I put the car into reverse and drove straight into this big signpost in the middle of a huge car park.

"It was a nightmare. What made it worse was all the club's office staff were looking out of the windows trying not to laugh. They must have thought 'what a lump we've signed here'."
