Sorry if you followed the heading to this item hoping
that young Nic had gone on hunger strike. As it happens
he's just refused to go to lunch with TWO state premiers.
He is reported to have turned down an invitation
to dine with both the Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria
Aznar and the French President Jacques Chirac.
Apparently Anelka said he'd only go if his brother could come
too, and when this was politely refused he turned down the
offer. That'll show 'em!
When Chirac heard about it he is said to have chuckled and
then promised not to interfere with Anelka's family matters.
Presumably there's a clause in the contract between Didier
and Nicolas saying that the former gets some percentage of everything coming to the latter, including lunch. If Nic had
accepted the offer, Didier could have sued for damages and
half a sandwich.
Of course, there's no reason Anelka or anyone else should feel
compelled to go to lunch with anyone, but surely he could
have come up with an excuse which made him look less chidlish?
"Stupid boy" or "touching familial loyalty"? The choice is yours.
